The lusterware, which features a golden peacock on a lustre glazed ceramic, was created by an unknown artist using ceramic techniques and is considered to be a part of a bigger lusterware bowl. The vessel was exhibited at Harvard from December 2, 2006 to March 23, 2008 during the "Overlapping Realms: Arts of the Islamic World and India, 900-1900" exhibit at the Harvard University Art Museums, Arthur M. Sackler Museum. The artifact at Harvard is a piece of a luster bowl that was acquired by Harvard in 1923 as a gift from Dr. Denman W. Ross. The interior holds a loosely incised design of two circles, each with double outlines, and a trio of radiating lanceolate leaves. Freely incised spirals fill the spaces between the leaves. The overall covering glaze is clear with a slightly greenish tinge and it carries stripes of 'color-splashed' green and brownish purple. The dish is shallow, with sides divided into straight, flaring segments. The low foot ring is slightly concave. The front plate and vase are cast in one piece and the back and sides are cast in one piece. The front plate is attached to the back and sides via two tabs that are bent over onto the top plate over the decoration and hammered down to secure the front. There is at least one lock mechanism visible through the front. The lock mechanism appears to be copper alloy. The decoration consists of punched circles with an inner hole. The inner holes are displaced from the center in some indicating use to two simple punches rather than a single complex punch. Some of the outer circles are incomplete due to being struck at the wrong angle.
